Hollywood actor and director Robert Redford is to receive a lifetime achievement award from New York's Film Society of Lincoln Centre.
The 77-year-old's career highlights will be celebrated at a gala in the city next April.
The society, which organises the annual New York Film Festival, said that Redford's "impact is hard to measure in many ways".
Recent Chaplin Award recipients include Barbra Streisand and Nicole Kidman.
The honour is given to the movie industry's most notable talents, and has also lauded Martin Scorsese, Alfred Hitchcock and Charlie Chaplin, after whom the award is named.
He was the first recipient in 1972, while last year's winner was director Rob Reiner.
Lesli Klainberg, the film society's executive director, said that Redford's contribution as an actor has been significant, but also pinpointed his work as founder of the Sundance Film Festival.
"Without the Sundance Institute and Sundance Film Festival, we'd likely have a different industry. And they continue to have a huge impact," she said.
"Obviously he's a star that many of us have grown up watching from his films in the early '60s to his current work.
"I happen to think he's also had some of the greatest co-stars ever, from Natalie Wood to Faye Dunaway, Barbra Streisand, and, of course, his great bromance with Paul Newman," added Ms Klainberg.
Redford starred in All is Lost in 2013, which was shown at the New York Film Festival. His performance was greeted with a standing ovation at its Cannes Film Festival premiere last year.

Cyclone Hudhud is pounding the eastern Indian coast, causing extensive damage and prompting the evacuation of some 350,000 people.
At least three people have been killed in Andhra Pradesh and three in Orissa.
The cyclone, classed "very severe", brought winds of 205km/h (127mph), as it passed over the coast near the city of Visakhapatnam.
The winds and heavy rains have brought down trees and power lines, and damaged crops and buildings in both states.
It is feared a storm surge of up to two metres could inundate low-lying areas and hundreds of relief centres have been opened in the two states. Disaster relief teams have also been sent.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababa Naidu said it was too early to assess the damage fully.
"We are unable to ascertain the situation; 70% of communication has totally collapsed," he said.
"We are asking people not to come out of their houses. We are mobilising men and materiel immediately."
Flooding fears
The three deaths in Andhra Pradesh occurred in separate incidents in Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam districts, Chief Secretary IYR Krishna Rao said.

Two were killed by falling trees and one by a collapsing wall.
Anil Shekhawat, from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), told the BBC: "The cyclone has landed... The NDRF is there - we have sent around 42 teams, comprising more than 2,000 rescuers."
The streets of Visakhapatnam, one of the largest cities in south-east India and home to a major naval base, remain largely deserted.
N Yuvaraj, a senior district official in Visakhapatnam, told the BBC: "We had this cyclone hitting us at around 10:25 Indian Standard Time (04:55 GMT). And at that point we had a wind speed of more than 205km/h."

He added: "The situation is very severe. The national highway in the region has been shut."
Local journalist Hridayesh Joshi told the BBC from Visakhapatnam: "The situation is becoming increasingly bad. There is very strong wind and rain right now - objects are flying and smashing things.
"We are relatively safe in the centre of town, but the danger is for those in open areas. We are hoping it won't get much worse."

It also warned that a storm surge of up to two metres would "inundate low-lying areas of Visakhapatnam, Vijayanagaram and Srikakulam".
The director of the Bhubaneswar centre of the IMD, Sarat Sahu, told the BBC that Hudhud was "likely to trigger heavy rains in most parts of south Orissa and the neighbouring states of Chhattisgarh and Telengana", raising fears of heavy flooding.

Ebola: Hospital mistakes blamed for US transmission

A top US health official has said a mistake was "clearly" made by staff treating a man who died of Ebola in Texas, resulting in one being infected.
The female health worker infected is in an isolation ward in stable condition, awaiting confirmation of her diagnosis.
Dr Tom Frieden, head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), said a full inquiry would be made into how the transmission occurred.
He said 48 other people who may also have had contact were being observed.
The health worker at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital wore full protective gear while treating Ebola victim Thomas Eric Duncan, health officials in Dallas say.
Duncan, who caught the virus in his native Liberia, died on Wednesday.
The current Ebola outbreak, concentrated in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, has resulted in more than 8,300 confirmed and suspected cases, and at least 4,033 deaths.
In other developments
  • The health authorities in Sierra Leone say they are now treating more Ebola patients in the capital Freetown than in the eastern districts of Kenema and Kailahun, where the first cases in the country were detected
  • European health officials investigating how a nurse in Madrid caught Ebola told the BBC they believe it was simply the result of an accident and the risks to the wider population remain very low
  • The UN special envoy on Ebola told the BBC the number of Ebola cases was currently increasing exponentially, but greater awareness would help contain the virus

‘I like the Queen,’ says Martin McGuinness

Former IRA chief of staff and Northern Ireland’s deputy first minister, Martin McGuinness, has stated that he likes the Queen.
Paying tribute to the monarch, who is the head of the British army he once fought against, McGuinness praised her courage for meeting him.
The Sinn Féin chief negotiator during the peace process first met the Queen at a charity event in 2012. In June, McGuinness became her tour guide around Belfast’s Crumlin Road jail where both he and first minister Peter Robinson were incarcerated during the Troubles.
He said the Queen understood the significance of the peace process and the symbolism of the two of them shaking hands. “I know who Queen Elizabeth represents. I know she’s the head of the British state. I know she has all sorts of titles in relation to different regiments in the British army.
“She knows my history. She knows I was a member of the IRA. She knows I was in conflict with her soldiers, yet both of us were prepared to rise above all of that,” McGuinness told a BBC Radio Ulster documentary on Sunday.
Reflecting on his meetings with the Queen, McGuinness said: “I liked her courage in agreeing to meet with me; I liked the engagements that I’ve had with her. There’s nothing I have seen in my engagements with her that this is someone I should dislike – I like her.”
The documentary, History in Our Hands, features the chairman of Co-Operation Ireland, a charity founded to promote better relations on the island. The charity’s chairman, Christopher Moran, who knows the Queen, said she was very happy how the peace process has turned out.
“The Queen sees the improvement in Anglo-Irish relations and the huge progress that has been made in the peace process in Northern Ireland as one of the great achievements in her long and glorious reign,” he said.

Teen killed by bus during 'zombie slayer' ride in Idaho corn maze

A teenager who was role-playing as a zombie has been run over and killed by a bus carrying paintballers inside an Idaho corn maze.
Jeremy T McSpadden Jr, 18, of Spokane Valley, Washington, stumbled, fell and was run over under the rear passenger wheel of a bus which was part of a “Zombie Slayer Bus Ride” held at the Incredible Corn Maze in Hauser, Idaho.
“Many of the patrons believed it was just part of the ride,” said a release from the Kootenai County sheriff’s office. “It was not until the bus had travelled away from the victim’s location and the role players began to reset for the next bus to come along that anyone realized something was wrong.”
McSpadden was likely killed instantly when he was run over at about 10.30pm on Friday. Officials do not believe alcohol or speed were factors. The bus was “creeping along”, witnesses said, at a speed not registered on the speedometer.
“The focus of the attraction is the bus creeps forward so the customers have plenty of opportunity to blast away at the zombies,” Sergeant Crawford Ward told the Associated Press. “This looks like it was just a horrific confluence of events.”
The Zombie Slayer Bus Ride was added to the Incredible Corn Maze this year and appeared to be a popular addition to a 12-acre site which local media outlets have reported as “longtime” area Halloween attraction.
Organizers announced on Facebook that all events were canceled for the weekend.
The town of Hauser has less than 700 residents, according to the 2010 census, and is along the Washington state line.
